Maryam Rahimi Blogs!
I'm usually not inspired to write about a film. But I found this film refreshing, inspiring, and beautiful in many ways.
Aside form the fact that this film was shot in the gorgeous town of Barcelona, Juan Antonio Gonzalo (played by Javier Bardem) is what makes this film so inspiring.
His honesty, serenity and love is beyond the average persons understanding (depending on how U define average also). His heart has room for just about anyone, and is capable of loving independently more than one individual and give the desired, passionate attention to the opposite person. He goes wherever his heart takes him, and shows compassion and love from the way he expresses himself down to his art of love, painting and communication with his loved ones. His the man who you will learn to love and hate. U will love him because he will love you first, and you will hate him because soon you will realize, he can love more than one woman, not just you.
As for Maria Elena, whom is breathtaking, she will leave you questioning your view of love, fidelity and loyalty. Her acceptance and love for Cristina is what most women in this day and age could never understand and overcome. Hell! I don't know if I could do what she did.
She reminds me of a teacher I had in College, who believed you can love and be intimate with more then one individual. That a man/woman is not an object one owns, that he or she can be with more than one person as long as everyone receives the deserving love they want/need. Maria Elena & Antonio demonstrate this beautifully.
As for the rest of the characters, I didn't think anything special. I think Cristina's character could have been more touching and moving by another actor who could have been more capable of expressing their inner desire & feelings more effectively through body language and facial expression. There were moments in this film when Scarlett Johansson was 'acting'. Good acting is invisible. If your watching an actor and you see his/her acting, that actor/actress has failed his/her job. As for the other characters in this film, mehhhh! was AIGHT, maybe a little boring at times. But who cares, Antonio was breath taking!
I shall leave you with this quote from the film:
"The trick is to enjoy life, accepting it has no meaning whatsoever" Antonio
