Maryam Rahimi Blogs!
Before going into my roadtrip blog, a quick update on the previous post about weight loss, I am happy to say I have so far lost 35LBS and still counting!
OK - Roadtrip? Acorss North America? Crazy huh? I say as long as 911 works, I'm good!
Few nights ago, I sat down on the edge of my bed, feeling utterly uninspired by life. I thought either I get out and find an exciting new adventure OR I sit around like a broccoli.... You can guess what happened next :)
I have so far been to
And now I am in Houston. There doesn't seem to be much going on here, heading to Nasa Space Center soon, then I will move on to Austin. Enjoy photos and video's from the road!
Boston - Massachusetts
I didn't spend much time in Boston because I was in such a hurry to get away from the east coast. I really needed a new environment and being in a city that felt so close to what I experience on daily basis was irritating. My one main stop was Harvard, I had to see what it was all about and sadly, aside from exterior viewing, everything indoors was off limits to non-students, security set ups were very tight, I couldn't get into most of the buildings. Once I left Harvard University, I drove through downtown Boston which is like any other major cosmopolitan city, few minutes downtown then I was on my way to the south...
Yale University, New Haven - Connecticut
OK, this is going to sound silly but I really wanted to see Yale because of Rory. You ask who Rory is? Well she was a character from a show called Gilmore girls (2000 to 2007). As a teen/young adult, I grew up watching Rory. Rory spent all of her high school years working hard to get into Harvard (which she did eventually) but once she toured Yale and Harvard before making her final decision, she decided Yale was the best place for her. This television drama was a source of inspiration growing up, it's available on Netflix, you should watch it ;) ... Anyways, it was just an hour stop, I didn't take a lot of pics, here are just a few...
Baltimore - Maryland
Baltimore was another quick stop on my way to Nashville. I was in a rush to make it further south, needed hot weather and lots of sun and away from everything that felt like the east coast.
Nashville - Tennessee
You will notice reading and looking through my photo blog, a lot of my destinations are inspired by some of my favourite television shows. Nashville, is actually a television series that is on air right now. It is all about Nashville living, country music and these wonderful characters that share music in common. So I just had to come here...
New Orlean, Louisiana
A road trip without a stop in New Orleans is not a roadtrip. I mean, Hello! It's Nola town baby! All that jazz, food and charming characters are not to go missed! I absolutely loved New Orleans, I can't wait to go back with some friends and visit the swamps, tour the plantations and hit some blues bar!
Dallas, Arlington & Fort Worth - Texas
I expected so much more, I think growing up watching westerns really twisted my vision of what Texas really is, or was, but it definitely not is what I thought was, makes sense? I thought I'de see tons of trendy western boutiques, handsome cowboys walking around and horses. I was far off from reality. It was kinda 'empty', most places are quite with the exception of few streets here in there. Not a big downtown, not a lot of big action. Just little pockets of activities here and there. That being said, I did discover my favourite rock country musicians performing in Fort Worth, scroll down to see the Stars of Nashville!
Concert in Texas: Stars of Nashville!
If you don't know 'Nashville' the television series, stop reading this blog now, and get on Netflix! Nashville is one of my favourite current TV dramas, it has everything a girl like me can dream of; romance, country music and great characters! Needless to say, when Charles and Clare were near by, I had to go see them perform live!
How to Crack An Oyster Open The Nola Way :)
If you don't know, because I didn't, New Orleans speciality is Oyster! They harvest oysters all year round and most restaurants have a page full of oysters prepared differently, all very delicious. I ordered the seafood stuffed baked oyster and it was indeed fantastic. This guy killed my oysters right in front of me, talk about fresh seafood!
I'm in Houston Texas now... will be blogging later this week for part II of this post. Don't forget to follow me on Periscope for live roadtrip broadcasts! Cheers.
