Stop number 16! Where to begin! Yosemite was both a disaster and an absolute wonder!
As mentioned previously, this road trip was not planned. All activities/outings where decided on, as I came across them, including Yosemite. The day I arrived in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains, I realized it was labour day weekend and most Californians if not all, were camping in Yosemite that same weekend. Needless to say, I was screwed.
I drove into Yosemite a bit after 8pm, coming from LA, I did not think it was going to be 'cold'... LOL ... what a mistake not to plan this part of the road trip! I ended up stranded, in my car, freezing! To pass the night, I searched for a hotel with secure parking lot and spent the night in the car :(
I barely slept for two hours, all the while the car engine was running because I needed heat to keep me warm. Ugh. It was horrible! Finally, at sunrise, I had had enough! I gathered myself and almost drove straight to San Jose but then decided 'Goddamn! This has got to be worth it!'...I had to check out Yosemite and see if passing a torturous night in my vehicle was the right decision to take.... that's when the trip turned wonderful ...
Glacier Point: jaw-dropping, vertigo-inducing views over the sheer walls of Yosemite Valley. It's arguably the most spectacular view in the park is at the end of Glacier Point Rd, about an hour’s drive from the valley. Here you can gaze out across the Sierra Nevada high country, with the curved tooth of Half Dome prominently in the foreground.
Tunnel View: This is the place people are usually thinking of when they think about Yosemite. Many of the things Yosemite is famous for are here. To the left is the iconic granite rock formation of El Capitan, with Half Dome rising in the background and Yosemite and Bridalveil Falls (due to the drought, the falls have dried up) and the Mist Trail.
Spending a day in Yosemite was probably one of the big highlights of my North America road trip. I can't wait to share more.
Coming up next: Seattle, Washington! Stay Tuned :)
