Creativity needs pillars of inspiration 05/26/2011

I've decided to share with you a series of photographs that I keep in my pile of things that I review from time to time to feel inspired. I think as a creative individual, we have to learn how to surround ourselves with creative elements to constantly fuel our imagination. Looking at photographs is just one way of getting inspired - so here is what inspires me...
Picture
St. Lucia - 2009 I took this picture during a drive by. I love the colors, the architecture and the rustic feel to it. It reminds me of authenticity and helps me stay rooted to what originally inspires me to do something - the foundation of my passion towards the idea. (PS. I went back to visit st. Lucia this year, feb. 2011, and this house is still there... looks fragile but it's solid like a rock)

I can not put my finger on what this image triggers inside of me, but I feel the need to create, start and/or invent something. Perhaps I should start thinking 'is this idea I have lustful? envious? does it give me a since of wrath? gluttony?...' I like staring at this image.... definitely awakens something in my core.

Dubai - 2009. I took this photo while cruising around in the city, location scouting for one of my projects. Since then, it's always struck a cord with me. This image reminds me that it's ok to think big, to think global & to reach high; even if your still one of the smaller structures in-between the skyscrapers..... After all, I was in Dubai many years ago, and there were only few areas where 3-4 story buildings and people living in tents and riding on camels..... look at it now......This happened in my lifetime ;)

I took this picture from Vogue Italy mag., one of their 2009 editions. I find this to be the opposite of my style which is high in contrast, mix of high temperature colors and bold architectural props in a set design. The fact that this simple, minimal art direction has inspired me makes me want to experiment with this sort of style. I look forward to using some of these elements in my next project.

Continuation from the photograph above: I like the the choice of her dress in combination with her hair style (very punk'ish) and the settle, serene environment/set. All three elements arrow in different directions yet they pull together and work beautifully.
Picture
I'm really not sure what I like about this photograph as it's not in my usual platter of art selection that appeals to me. However, I find her eyes communicate to me somehow, and it connects me to an undefined force of energy.
Picture
There is a fierce action on pause element happening here, I find it very attracted and sexy. I use this as a source of inspiration for my models when directing a photo shoot (if it's relevant), I find they (the models) can often connect with this image and can duplicate this energy into their mind set.
Picture
I'm not a fan of fiction (or am I? It's a struggle. If it triggers a childhood fantasy, I enjoy it - otherwise, I'm typically not a fan). What I like about this picture aside from the obvious (I love Jennifer Lopez) is the color combination, the polished texture and the illusion of depth. It helps let my imagination run loose.

I am slightly dyslectic & color blind, I also have ADD ... my posts are meant to reflect my casual side... I like keeping things light and I like my slang.
